A confident, energetic display typeface with geometric bones.

About

This whimsically block lettered but crisp-as-heck display face was inspired by children's books. In its early life Grandstander was only one weight. Not only did it survive adolescence, it evolved into a multi-weight/slant variable font.

While working on Grandstander we could see the "fun" come out in each glyph. Even the "@" has a warm, friendly feeling to it. We'd like to credit some *magic* in the vectors, but it probably has to do with the subtle bends in traditionally straight forms. There are soft bulges as if a traditional sans typeface took on balloon form and was ever so slightly overinflated.

Those soft curves are still present in the lighter weights, but the delicate features are more pronounced, with several nods to handmade letters. Rest assured, friends, that this warm and playful typeface will appeal to folks young and old.

Grandstander comes in static styles for desktop and web as well as a single variable font and has received several updates since its release in August of 2018. Thanks to Google Fonts it now exists in libre form with an Open Font License and is available on Github.
